Description
No. 35 High Street is a building that appears to date from the late 18th century but is likely from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It was formerly the Cross Keys public house. The structure is two and a half storeys high, built of rubble on a plinth, with brick quoins and quoined brick dressings around the first-floor windows. The building has three bays and features a slate roof with two gabled dormers and two brick ridge chimneys.
At the center, there is a gabled tower porch, which has been later painted in brick. This porch includes an arched entrance on the ground floor, flanked by imposts and a key, with oeuil de boeufs on each side. The first floor has a tripartite window and two side windows, all of which are glazing bar sashes. On the left side, there are two shop windows, with the left one previously being a window in an arched recess, while the right side projects as a shop front. At the rear, which faces the church, there are large three-light glazing bar sashes on the first floor under a lintel.
