Former Coach House at Groundwell House

The former coach house at Groundwell House is a building from the early 19th century that has been altered over time. It is constructed of rubblestone with red-brick dressings and some blue headers. The roof is mostly collapsed, with partial coverage in corrugated iron. The building is one storey high, previously having a loft, with a second storey at the center.

The symmetrical front elevation has five bays arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern. The corners and openings are highlighted with brick quoining. The central carriage entrance features a round-cornered flat brick arch with ashlar imposts and a keystone, along with a 20th-century sliding door. Above this entrance is a keyed oculus and a stepped gable with coping stones. To either side of the entrance are segmental-arched windows, with doorways beyond, all having keystones. The left doorway retains the remains of a boarded stable door.

At the rear, there was a former opening in the right bay, but this section of the wall has collapsed. Each return has an inserted ground floor opening and an original keyed segmental-arched loading hatch leading to the gable. Inside, the floors are made of cobblestones, and the upper floor of the central bay is lined with bird nesting holes. The building is currently in a state of dereliction.
