Description

Stratton Park is a mid-19th century ornamental villa, reportedly built by a retired tea planter. The building is two storeys high, constructed of stuccoed brick, and features low-pitched roofs with deep eaves. There are pendants at the corners of the eaves and panelled ashlar chimneys topped with dentil capping. The main front section consists of three bays, with a central gable and a one-bay extension to the left. The windows are glazing bar sash types with moulded architraves, and the central first-floor window has a dentil cornice above its architrave, topped by a stucco roundel depicting a fox catching birds.

A projecting porch with a dentil cornice leads to six-panel doors made of carved oak. The west front has flanking verandah bays on the left, while the south front has them on the right, featuring cast iron honeysuckle standards. The left bay has intersecting tracery, and the first-floor window is adjacent to a four-bay conservatory with a hipped roof covered in partly fishscale tiles and a crested ridge.

On the south front, there are three bays with a gable over the left two bays. The central tented porch has cast iron honeysuckle standards and flanking ground floor bays with a dentil cornice. The central first-floor window is round-headed, and there is a circular stucco panel with a relief of a spaniel retrieving birds. To the right, a lower bay has a gable above its round-headed first-floor window. An octagonal dovecote with a tall spirelet adds an unusual feature to the right side. A rubble wall about 4 to 6 feet high with a chamfered top runs along the street, and there are quadrants leading to the entrance by the lodge, which is not of special interest.
