Description

Church Farmhouse is a mid- to late 17th-century farmhouse, altered over time. It is built of rubble with ashlar quoins and features ovolo mullion windows with dripmoulds and relieving arches on the ground floor. The roof is covered with modern Roman tiles, incorporating moulded coping and footstones. A large central chimney has three rebuilt brick diagonal shafts, and there are two other chimneys, one on the east gable end. Two attic windows are set into the gables. The windows on the first floor are three-light, and those on the ground floor are predominantly four-light, with other smaller windows also present. The gable ends have one range of windows, whilst the south front has two, with an altered bay and a gabled projection to the left. The west front has three bays, although the right-hand bay is largely obscured by climbing plants. A central doorway has been inserted, designed to match the style of the windows. To the north-east is a two-storey range of outbuildings. Inside, the ground floor contains two-panelled rooms; the south-west room contains possible 19th-century panelling and a bolection fireplace. Above that room, a first-floor room has a noteworthy Tudor arch fireplace. The staircase, made of heavy oak, is located in the angle of the "L" plan. The roof has later queen post trusses.
