Description
The Parish Church of St John is an Anglican church built between 1881 and 1882 by W.W. Bethell of Bristol. It features a nave, a north aisle with a porch, a chancel, and a north chapel, all designed in an Early English style. The church is constructed from coursed, squared rubble with freestone dressings and has a pantile roof, with a catslide roof on the north aisle. The north aisle has two gables and plain three-light windows with trefoil heads. The nave includes two three-light windows and one single-light window, similar to those in the north aisle. The north porch is timber framed and gabled, while a shingled bellcote sits over the west gable, topped with a broached spire.
Inside, there is a three-bay arcade supported by round piers with carved capitals, and a moulded chancel arch with scalloped capitals. The timber framing of the bellcote is visible, featuring a hammer beam and an arch-braced truss. The font is in the Perpendicular style and is octagonal, complemented by wrought iron candle brackets. This small church is well detailed and intact, showcasing 'Arts and Crafts' elements.
