Description

The Old Rectory is an early 19th-century house, built on the site of an earlier 18th-century structure. It was originally a rectory, and is now a private residence. The external walls are constructed of rubble, with a plain tiled roof concealed behind a coped parapet. The house is two storeys high with attics accessed by gabled dormers. It has a three-bay, one-bay, three-bay facade; the outer six bays project as two-storey segmental bows, each featuring glazing bar sash windows. The central entrance is a six-panel door surmounted by an overlight, sheltered by a 20th-century hood. A large extension to the north side is believed to be from the early 18th century, but its appearance is now largely obscured by a 20th-century staircase. Inside, a staircase with twisted balusters is present, and there is reported to be a fine shell-headed cupboard.
