Description
The Kingswood War Memorial is a stone structure erected in 1921. It is located at the north-west corner of Holy Trinity Church, which was built in 1821 and is listed as Grade II*. The memorial stands on a raised triangular platform that features a stone seat in the center and a set of stone steps to the right, with additional steps on either side leading to a raised square platform behind.
The memorial has an octagonal base surrounded by four corner posts topped with cross-vaulted designs. The shaft of the memorial starts as a square at the base and tapers to an octagonal section, culminating in a lantern that is adorned with a band of foliate carving and has an octagonal annulet at both the top and bottom. The lantern features four faces with traceried niches. On the north-west face, there is a relief sculpture depicting Christ displaying the stigmata. Additionally, the north-west face of the base contains a recessed panel with the inscription: "O SAVIOUR / WHO DIDST DIE AND / RISE AGAIN FOR ALL / REMEMBER THESE IN / THY MERCY WHO DIED / FOR US AND GRANT / TO THEM A JOYFUL / RESURRECTION."
