Description
The building is a coach-house and stables, likely constructed in 1722, located 15 yards to the northeast of Oxwick Farmhouse. It is made of rubble with brick dressings and string courses, topped with a corrugated iron roof featuring coped raised verges. The central section served as the stables, tack room, and hay loft, designed with two advanced bays that have brick corner pilasters and ashlar capitals, all topped with gables. The building features square and segmental headed windows with brick dressings and moulded cills, while the central first floor window has a moulded architrave. A central round headed doorway is flanked by rusticated brick piers with moulded ashlar capitals, supporting a flat stone hood with a moulded cornice. On either side of the main block are two single-storey coach houses with pitched double Roman tiled roofs, featuring brick corner piers and arched carriage entries with keystones and moulded imposts. The gable ends include brick string courses, three square headed windows, and a lunette in the apex. This building showcases a highly unusual blend of vernacular and provincial baroque architectural elements.
