Description

The structure is a former ventilation furnace and chimney from the Golden Valley coal mine, dating from around 1840 to 1850. It was restored in 1984 by the Bristol Industrial Archaeological Society. The chimney is tapered and constructed from random stone rubble, topped with brick capping. The furnace itself is lined with brick. This ventilation furnace was specifically designed to draw foul air from the underground workings of the mine and is reputed to be the oldest of its kind.
