Description

The Champneys chest tomb is located in the churchyard about 15 metres south of the south transept of the Church of St. Mary. This chest tomb dates from the early 18th century and is made of limestone, featuring sandstone inscription panels and a flat top with a moulded edge that rests over a richly modelled frieze. The ends of the tomb are elaborately carved with moulded cartouches, central pilasters, and a moulded base. The inscription panels are badly worn, with the earliest date recorded as 1717 and the name Mary Champneys.
