Description
The farmhouse, with an attached barn and dairy range, dates to 1707, as indicated by the inscription "WHM 1707" in the central gable, with a later addition dated 1792 ("LHM 1792") on the south block, and subsequent 19th-century and later alterations. The building is constructed of roughly coursed rubble with brick and stone dressings, featuring a triple roll tiled roof and gable stacks with octagonal chimneys and crestings. The rear block has a slate roof, while the barn and dairy have pantiled roofs. The original layout was a three-room plan, with a through passage, and the barn and dairy form an L-shaped arrangement.
The two-and-a-half storey, three-window, three-gabled main house has a gabled porch with a four-panelled door on the right-hand bay. Above this is a stone cross-window with an entablature. There are two similar windows at the first floor and two in the gable. Oval bull's-eye windows are set within stone surrounds with cornices, topped with ball finials. A straight joint marks the porch’s division from the rest of the facade. The left-hand bay features a six-light stone mullion and transom window with a hood mould and stops; the first floor has a similar cross window with a matching hood mould. A trefoil, set within a square, chamfered surround, is present in the gable, also topped with a ball finial. A low, one-and-a-half storey wing is attached to the right, with a small gable, a slit window in a stone surround, and a buttress at the side. The left return displays a brick flue and two first-floor sashes with intersecting glazing bars in the upper half. A 20th-century conservatory is also present, and a straight joint marks the division between the two sashes.. The rear elevation includes an irregular arrangement of windows, including a ground-floor sash with eight panes in the lower half and intersecting glazing bars in the upper half, and another 16-pane sash above with a gauged brick flat head and surround. Ground and first floor windows to the left are 16-pane boxed sashes with cambered heads. A two-storey block connects the house to the barn and dairy, featuring a boxed sash at the first floor facing north.
The three-bay barn has a cart entry, two windows, and a door, all with timber lintels. A blocked loading door is located in the gable end, and a catslide roof slopes to the north. The dairy has a plank and batten door with a glass insertion and a timber lintel, along with a two-light fixed window above. An external stone stair leads to a trellis porch with a door leading to a former cheese-loft. The interior has not been inspected.
