Description
The arch connecting wood walks from Hermitage Wood to Long Wood is a Grade II listed tunnel built around 1750 by Thomas Wright. It is made of limestone and serves as a short pedestrian tunnel that links footpaths within the landscaped grounds of Stoke Park Dower House. The tunnel features a coursed limestone vault with some remains of vermiculated voussoirs and keystones, which are partly intact and partly on the ground. At the time of inspection in July 1988, the area was considerably overgrown. The tunnel runs beneath a carriageway that passes above it, connecting Hermitage Wood and Long Wood.
