Description
Approximately 63 yards of retaining wall to the wharf and steps at Avonside Wharf is a Grade II listed structure located east of Keynsham Road in Bitton. This retaining wall is situated some distance from Avonside House and the wharf buildings. It marks the terminus of the Avon and Gloucester Tramway, which opened in 1835. The wall is constructed of large rubble and features metal cramps to support the parapet. It is about 20 yards long and includes steps leading down to the water, along with three large mooring rings.
