Description
Hambrook House, along with an attached cottage, garden walls, and gates, is a house dating from the 17th century that was refaced in 1784. The exterior features rendered walls with freestone dressings, ashlar stone, and pantile roofs. The building stands three storeys tall and has five windows. The outer four windows are glazing bar sashes with architraves that include keystones. The central section of the house projects forward and is topped with a pediment, featuring tripartite sashes beneath friezes and cornices. The entrance is designed similarly, and there are urns on the parapet. A return wall on the west side shows the former roof line and has blocked windows. At the rear, the building retains a gabled structure with a gabled wing. The east side has a two-storey section with one window, now functioning as a separate cottage, which contains later windows and a plain parapet. From this point, a garden wall approximately 2.5 metres high extends about 30 metres south. The cottage gateway features long and short quoins and a keystone, and the wall ends at two square piers with friezes and caps. To the west, a similar garden wall steps up to the house and has two urns. Inside, the ground floor rooms have plaster-enriched beams, and the staircase, which has turned balusters, is accessed through a flat arch with fluted pilasters and an enriched soffit.
