Description

The Cottage is a former gamekeeper's cottage dating from around 1800, with extensions added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rubble with a pantile roof and features end chimneys. The building includes some use of zinc-slag blocks for the quoins and has bricks with cambered heads at the openings. The cottage is two storeys high and has two windows on the upper floor, with 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor and wide-margined glazing above. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door. Inside, the left-hand room on the ground floor retains an early arrangement that includes a settle, dresser, and a fireplace with a meat-curing chamber. The upper floors have low ceilings. The cottage is noted for its interior and sociological interest.
