Description

Bury Manor is a house, now used for commercial purposes, dating from the early 19th century with later alterations. It is constructed of rubble and stucco, topped with a slate roof that is pantiled at the rear. The building is designed in a Gothic style with a symmetrical front, featuring three storeys and eight windows. There are canted bays extending through all three storeys on each side, with window sashes set in moulded architraves, except for the second floor which has 9-pane sashes in the same style. The central entrance has a Doric porch with a pediment and an 8-panelled door. Architectural details include a plinth, a band course above the ground floor windows, a string course at the cills of the first floor windows, a cornice, and an embattled parapet with stepped merlons over the canted bays. The left side of the building has two windows similar to the front, while the ground and first floor to the right are blocked. The rear features a wing with two storeys and three varied windows, along with two additional rear wings, each with gable ends and coping. The central block has a first-floor round-headed window with Gothic intersecting glazing bars lighting the stair, along with a 9-pane sash above, both framed by moulded architraves and keystones. A 20th-century single-storey flat-roofed extension is located between the two wings. Inside, the entrance hall has a plain modillion cornice and an open-well stair leading to the rear, featuring turned balusters and knops, a moulded wreathed handrail, and panelling on the sides with plain pilasters at the landings, extending to the second floor. The front left room includes an enriched modillion cornice, window shutters, and 6-panelled doors, while the front right room has a dentil cornice and shutters.
