Description
Tytherington War Memorial is a war memorial built in 1921 by F K Howell. The main part of the memorial is made of granite, while the lowest block is constructed from stone sourced from Tytherington quarry.
The memorial features a Celtic cross that stands on a squared plinth, which in turn rests on a tall, roughly-hewn block. The center and arms of the cross are decorated with raised circles. The faces of the plinth have smoothed rectangular panels that display raised brass lettering for the inscriptions. The inscription on the south face reads: "To the glory of God in thankfulness for Victory and Peace. And in ever living thankfulness for the men of this parish who gave their lives for their king and country in the European War 1914-1918 and whose names are inscribed hereon." The names of those who died in the First World War are listed on the west and east sides, while the north face includes the names of those who died in the Second World War.
