Description

This is a mid-17th century house in Tytherington, situated on West Street. The building is constructed of rubble, with the first floor of the porch rendered. It has double Roman tile roofs. The house is two storeys high and has five windows. These are predominantly two-light, transmullioned windows, with ovolo-moulded mullions; two windows are 20th-century replacements. A gabled, two-storey porch projects centrally, with a jettied timber-framed first floor and an added bay. The porch has an ovolo-moulded door frame, a plank and panel door with strap hinges set within an ogee and ovolo moulded frame. A lower, two-storey wing is on the left side and features one three-light ovolo-moulded casement window at ground floor, and a margin-glazed sash window on the north elevation. Tall diagonal paired stacks are present. Inside, the house retains ovolo-moulded beams and a parlour chamber door frame. The group value of the house lies in its well-preserved 17th-century character and detailing.
