Description
The walls, piers, railings, gates, and overthrow attached to the west of the Church of St. Mary date from the early 19th century. They consist of two sections that enclose the churchyard to the west. The southern section features a brick wall with limestone coping, while the northern section is made of coursed rubble with stone coping. This northern wall is approximately 45 meters long and ramps up to the east to follow the slope of the ground. The southern range is about 50 meters long but is interrupted by a 20th-century greenhouse.
The railings along both walls are adorned with fircone finials on the principal rails and knob finials on the common rails. At the entrance to the churchyard, there are a pair of square piers on plinths with moulded bases, each topped with a cornice and hipped top. The gates sweep down at the center and feature a central fircone finial and an oval lock. There is also a single rail overthrow with the remains of a lantern at the center. At the time of the survey in September 1984, the structure was noted to be in poor condition.
