Description

The raised terrace, located 50 metres northwest of the Church of St. Michael in Winterbourne, dates from the late medieval period and has been repaired. It is constructed from rubble and freestone. The terrace is divided into two halves, each approximately 20 metres long. From a central gap, two flights of six steps ascend to a plain terrace, which is supported on either side by walls that rise about 1 metre above the terrace level, with a vaulted section at the eastern end. This structure is believed to be the terrace of the original Winterbourne Court, which has since been lost.
