Description
This barn, located 25 yards north of Home Farmhouse, dates from the 17th or early 18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble and features a Cotswold stone slate roof with coped raised verges and saddle stones. The barn has slit vents made of freestone and internal embrasures. A projecting gabled porch is found on the north side, while there is a square-headed entry on the south. The north side also has regular putlogs and buttresses, along with ventilation holes in the end gables. There are two 19th-century cart entries on the south side and three reset carved heads in the west gable, which were taken from the parish church. Inside, the barn consists of 13 bays with tie and collar beam trusses, some of which include struts. This barn is an unusual but well-designed and detailed example of a Cotswold barn, remaining relatively intact and unaltered. It is believed to have been a tithe barn and may incorporate materials from an earlier structure.
