Description

Healey Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a fireplace dated 1638, and features a later 17th century to early 18th century wing and an attached dairy, along with 19th century alterations. The building is constructed from limestone rubble with stone dressings and quoins, rendered surfaces, and brick and sandstone dressings, topped with a double Roman tiled roof that has a south gable stack.

Originally designed with a through passage plan and two rooms, a wing was added to the center, creating a T-plan with the dairy attached to the west of the original house. The south elevation is two storeys high with two windows and a centrally projecting wing. The ground floor on the left has a six-light window with chamfered mullions and a transom, along with a hood mould. The first floor features a three-light window with moulded mullions and round heads, complete with a stopped hood mould. The right side of the ground floor has a three-light casement window with chamfered mullions, a hood mould, and a relieving arch made of banded brick and sandstone, along with a small two-light casement under the eaves.

The wing to the left has a three-light casement with a segmental head, and a 19th century three-light casement under the eaves with moulded mullions and a surround. There is a buttress to the right where the wing used to extend. On the right return of the wing, there is a ground floor two-light casement with a heavy rounded mullion and surround, and a first floor two-light wooden casement under the eaves. The front of the wing has a door in a plain frame with a rendered wall.

The right return of the house is rendered and features ground and first floor three-light casements with chamfered mullions and a hood mould. The left return has a single storey dairy attached with a door. The rear of the house has a large external stack to the left, a door in a plain frame to the right (which was the former rear through passage door), and a two-light casement with a moulded mullion. The first floor has three 19th century two-light casements and a stack rising from the eaves to the right.

Inside, there is a wide central passage with a 19th century straight stair inserted. The ground floor room to the east features a fine stone fireplace with a Tudor arch and rosettes in the frieze, a dentil cornice under the mantel, bolection-moulded sides, and a hollow-moulded head, with carved initials and the date GW/AD 1638/HW, along with boxed beams.
