Description

Ivory Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins in the 17th century, significantly altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble, rendered, with double Roman tiled roofs. Originally a T-shaped plan, it now forms an L-shape thanks to a 20th-century addition. The east elevation has two storeys; the block to the left was remodelled in the 19th century, featuring a higher roofline, a 2-light casement window at ground and first floor on the left, a doorway with overlight to the right, and a single light window above. To the right is a 1½-storey section with two 19th-century casement windows at ground floor, a small gable to the left with a 2-light casement, and a similar casement under the eaves to the right. The right return has a single ovolo-moulded light window within the gable end. A large, two-storey, three-window 20th-century addition extends to the right. The left return features a 19th-century 2-light casement at first floor left. The rear wing has a single-storey 20th-century lean-to addition and 2 plate-glass sash windows at first floor, with a gable rising to roof ridge height. A rear wing is attached to the 20th-century addition, and incorporates a two-span roof. Inside, the kitchen on the front right ground floor has chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a plank and batten door leading to a former stair with studs and strap hinges, a 17th-century dresser with shaped shelves, a fine spice cupboard with scroll and circle carving and butterfly hinges, and a bacon-rack. A 19th-century straight staircase is located in the former cross passage. A ground floor room to the left has a moulded beam with a chevron detail on the stop.
