Description

This is a terrace of houses built around 1860 to 1880 in Plymouth, originally part of Devonport. The terrace, numbered 44 to 70 on Mollesworth Road, is constructed primarily of painted brick with dry slate roofs. The roofs are stepped and feature large front gables with exposed purlin ends, and tall brick end stacks. The architectural style is simple Gothic.

The houses are arranged in a double-depth plan, with one room at the front of each property. Each pair of houses presents a symmetrical six-window facade. Above each pair is a segmental-arched gable window, largely with sash windows. A prominent feature is the central, corbelled oriel window above each pair; this has a four-light stone mullioned window with splayed lights and shouldered heads, covered by a hipped roof with a moulded cornice. Single lights flanking the oriel also have shouldered heads. The ground floor features a pair of depressed, two-centred-arch window openings with transomed wooden casements, alongside a pointed-arched doorway with a Y-traceried fanlight and a shouldered head. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
