Description
This large warehouse, formerly occupied by Metherell and Son Limited and Westcraft, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed from Plymouth limestone rubble and features segmental brick arches over the openings. The roof is covered with tarred slate and is hipped at the left-hand corner. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan that follows the curve of the street and stands three storeys tall, with an eight-window range on the street front that includes small, widely spaced windows. The old two-light casement windows, some of which are on the ground floor and fitted with iron bars, complement the five doorways that are now blocked. The left-hand return has a one-window range with a doorway, and former loading doorways on the right, with the ground-floor doorway partly blocked and converted into a window. Inside, the warehouse features timber beamed floors and brick-vaulted floors supported by cast-iron columns. This building is noted as one of the least altered warehouses in Plymouth.
