Description
This is a small town house with a later shop, dating from the 18th century and extended in the early 19th century. The front is of painted brick laid on a painted plinth, with a dry slate roof featuring projecting front eaves and a modillion cornice. A tall brick stack is situated on the left. The building has a fairly deep plan, including a rear wing and a wing on the right.
It is two storeys high, with a two-window front. The windows are early to mid-19th century hornless sashes with glazing bars to the top halves, with paired sashes in the wider opening on the left. On the ground floor, there is a shuttered segmental-arched window, likely the original doorway, on the right. A slate pent roof covers the coved cornice of a shuttered shop window and flanking doorways with overlights and panelled doors, each doorway approached by two steps. The rendered end wall of the 19th-century wing is located at the far right, featuring two outbuilt chimney breasts.
The interior has not been inspected, but may contain features of interest. New Street is notable for its high proportion of fine 17th and 18th century houses.
