Description
Number 120 and 122, along with the attached forecourt walls and railings, are two houses located on a corner site in Stonehouse, Plymouth. Number 120, on the right, dates from the 18th century, while Number 122 is an early 19th-century building designed by John Foulston. Both houses are finished in stucco, with decorative stucco detailing on Number 122. The roofs are hidden behind an attic parapet, with piers dividing the bays and some windows, including some blind windows. Number 120 features an original rainwater head and downpipe.
Number 120 has a double-depth plan, while Number 122 is deeper due to a front extension made in the early 19th century. Each house has three storeys plus an attic over a basement, with a three-window range. The upper storeys of Number 122 feature a giant Ionic order of distyle in antis under a moulded entablature, which also extends to the left-hand return. The ground floor of Number 122 consists of three bays with channelled rustication and segmental arches on impost strings. Number 120 has had a window inserted where a doorway once was.
Inside Number 122, the original staircase and some original panelled doors are still intact. The property also includes forecourt walls and iron railings. This building is part of a planned late Georgian street that was laid out in 1773.
