Description
The structure is a wall, piers, and steps that extend approximately 140 meters along the east side of Tarring House, built between 1763 and 1771. It is constructed from limestone rubble and ashlar. The low capped wall features round, capped end piers and a central flight of steps leading down to the Tarring and Wheel House. Historically, this wall served as a retaining wall for a roadway between the ropeyard and the Dockyard wall. It is part of a group that includes the White Yarn, Tarring and Tarred Yarn Houses, and the Spinning House.
