Description
The Crown and Column Public House is an early 19th-century public house located on Ker Street in Devonport, Plymouth. It features a stucco exterior and a hipped slate roof with a stuccoed stack on the left side. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a three-window front.
The original hornless sash windows, which have glazing bars, are tall on the first floor and square on the second floor. The stucco detailing includes a plinth, an impost string above the round-arched ground-floor openings on the left and centre, sill bands, and moulded hoods supported by consoles above the first-floor windows. The arched openings, including a wider doorway on the left, have spoked fanlights, and there is an entablature with a moulded cornice over the right-hand opening.
While the interior has not been inspected, it may hold interest. The public house is part of a notable group of buildings in the centre of Devonport.
