Description

Teats Hill House is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was remodeled in the 18th century. It features painted or rendered stone rubble with mock timber framing applied to the surface and has steep slate roofs on three levels. The building is set into a bank at the rear and has a single-depth plan. The central area is a 17th-century hall, with a room to the left that may also date from the 17th century. To the right of the hall is a passage leading to a dog-leg staircase, and the parlour at the far right has been heightened or rebuilt in the 18th century.

The exterior has two storeys and an irregular front with window openings of various sizes, featuring 20th-century windows. There is an 18th-century six-panel door with flush bottom panels located towards the right.

Inside, the house retains some 17th and 18th-century features, including a 17th-century fireplace with an ovolo-moulded oak lintel, which is truncated on the right side where there is a recess in the fireplace wall. Another opening on the rear wall is likely another fireplace. There is a winder stair to the left of the hall, heavy oak joists in the left-hand room, and a dog-leg stair with boarded-over balusters. The parlour features 18th-century fielded dado panelling and a two-panel door in the rear right-hand corner. The roof structure is reported to have old pegged trusses.
