Description
Merafield Farmhouse and Numbers 1, 2, and 3 Merafield Farm Cottages are a farmhouse and three attached cottages, likely dating from the 18th century, with the cottages possibly originating in the 17th century. The farmhouse is constructed of rendered rubble, while the cottages are similarly rendered. They have dry slate roofs laid to diminishing courses; the farmhouse section has a hip roof to the left, and the cottages to the right have a steeper roof with lower eaves. Tall rendered end and axial stacks are present. The building has a single-depth plan with a wing extending from the rear left of the farmhouse.
The farmhouse is two-storey and three bays wide. The cottages are single-storey with attics mostly within the roof space and comprise a 1:2-window range with gabled dormers over the eaves. Windows are early 19th century, primarily 16-pane hornless sashes to the farmhouse, with some horned replacements, and to the ground floor of the cottages and dormers. The farmhouse features a central porch with a hipped roof, and a doorway on its left return. The cottages have a pair of doorways positioned to the right of centre, the right-hand one with a 20th-century gabled open porch. The doorways are fitted with 20th-century glazed doors, and the doorway to the left of the left-hand cottage is blocked. The interior has not been inspected.
