Description
This is a terrace of three shops with residential accommodation above, built in the early 19th century on the Southside Street in Plymouth's Barbican area. The buildings are constructed of painted brick with flat arches, topped with a slate roof that has a decorative modillion eaves cornice. Brick end stacks are present, featuring many old pots, and the roof has cast-iron ogee gutters. The building follows a double-depth plan with rear wings.
The three-storey terrace has a 2:2:2 window arrangement. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes. The ground floor features an original moulded fascia entablature above three altered shopfronts. Numbers 43 and 44 have transomed shop windows and doorways on their left sides. A carriage opening is located to the right of No. 44, and No. 45 (the rightmost building) has a doorway with a tall overlight and an original shuttered and panelled door. The interior has not been inspected.
