Description
Castle House is a town house dating from the 18th century, located on Fore Street in Plympton St Maurice. The building features roughcast render over what is likely rubble, with stucco or render surrounds around the openings. It has a steep dry slate roof that was likely heightened in the late 19th century, which includes two late 19th century gabled dormers with shaped barge boards and terracotta finials. The layout consists of a single-depth plan with a rear extension, featuring two rooms at the front that flank a nearly central entrance hall. The house is two storeys plus an attic and has a nearly symmetrical two-window front. The windows are late 19th century four-pane horned sashes. The doorway, located closer to the right-hand window, is approached by three stone steps and features a six-panel door, with the top two panels later glazed. All openings have eared architraves with shaped heads. The interior has not been inspected but may retain original or 19th century features of interest.
