Description
Point Cottage is a lodge located at the quay access to Saltram House in Plympton, built in the 18th century and extended in the late 20th century. The building features roughcast render and dry slate roofs with pediments at the front. The original lodge is square in plan, but a deeper extension has been added on the right and connected to a flat-roofed building. It is a single-storey structure with a three-window front. The original front, located on the left, has a triangular pediment with a modillion cornice and a carved tympanum above rusticated stone pilasters, featuring a central 12-pane hornless sash window. The right-hand wing, which projects forward, is a replica of the original but lacks the carved tympanum. The linking building has a smaller central sash window similar to the others. The original entrance is on the left-hand return and includes a verandah supported by rustic wooden columns. The interior is very simple.
