Description
No. 33 Looe Street is a merchant's house dating from the 17th century, which has been extensively restored in the 20th century. The building features a mix of rubble stone with some dressed stone quoins and render on the timber frame beneath the oriel windows. It has a steep dry slate roof with a coped gable end on the right and two raking half dormers. The house has a shallow-depth plan and stands three storeys tall, with the second floor partly in the roof space, and a two-window range.
The upper floors are adorned with moulded 17th-century or restored canted oak mullioned oriels, supported by shaped brackets, and hipped slate roofs over the first-floor windows. The ground floor includes transomed windows, featuring a three-light window on the far left and a five-light window on the right, all with leaded glazing and diamond panes. There is also a doorway and a tall window beneath the left-hand oriels. The interior has been rebuilt and lacks any original features. This house is part of a significant group of 17th and 18th-century houses.
