Description

Nos. 82 and 84 Vauxhall Street are two pairs of warehouses that have been combined into one shop. They date from the mid to late 19th century and are constructed from Plymouth limestone rubble with brick dressings, including a brick mid-floor band on the upper floors and stucco on the ground floor of the street front. The buildings have hipped slate parallel roofs, each divided by a coping, and form an overall square-plan block, likely built in two phases.

The exterior features three storeys and a symmetrical six-window paired street front with splayed corners. There are segmental arches over six-pane windows on the upper floors, and the ground floor has 20th-century windows with leaded glazing, all set in deep reveals. The stuccoed shopfront has a moulded capital string and a plain fascia topped with a cornice. There are two narrow shop doorways and a window on either side of each doorway.

On the right-hand return, there is a loading frontage for two warehouses, with a wider frontage on the left. Each nearly symmetrical two-window range has central loading doorways, with wider doorways on the ground floor; the right-hand doorway has been widened. Above the eaves, there is a loading boom. The other warehouse has had its right-hand doorway converted into a standard doorway, and the window above it has been blocked with rubble. The interior has not been inspected.
