Description

This is a warehouse located on Sutton Wharf, part of the Barbican area of Plymouth. It was built in 1842, as indicated by the stone inscription "W. S. 1842." The warehouse is constructed of coursed Plymouth limestone rubble with dressed voussoirs forming segmental arches. It has a half-hipped dry slate roof.

The building has a deep plan and rises five storeys. The front façade is symmetrical, originally with two windows, but now with doorways at ground-floor level replacing some windows. A large opening sits above the central doorway, and loading doorways are positioned above each of the upper floors. Contemporary two-light casement windows are present, alongside original ledged doors. There is weatherboarding between the floors relating to the loading bays, some glazing to the first and second floors, and a steel loading bracket to the right of the upper loading doorway. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to contain original floors and roof structure.
