Description
The Royal Marine Barracks Equipment Shed is a store that was later used as a garage and store, built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from Plymouth limestone rubble and has a dry slate roof, featuring a long rectangular plan. The exterior is a single storey with a 15-bay front supported by a colonnade of cast-iron Tuscan columns. The front is partly walled, with wide windows that have vertical glazing bars above the rubble masonry, while other sections are open or feature large ledged doors, some with overlights above. Inside, the shed has a timber king post truss roof. It is depicted on an 1860s map of the barracks as a store. The building is included for its group value with the Longroom and is recognized as a well-preserved example of an auxiliary building within a complete Marines barracks.
