Description

A farmhouse, probably dating from the late 15th to early 16th century, with 20th-century alterations and additions. It is indicated on maps as Felton House Farm. The farmhouse is colourwashed render with stone copings and a double Roman tile roof. It is a long, two-storey range set at a right angle to the road, with a later low addition to the rear. It features early 20th-century cross-casement windows throughout. A gabled porch was added to the right-hand side, and a slightly advanced gabled projection is to the right of the porch. Two rendered ridge stacks are present. The interior has a cross passage and a three-room plan. A particularly fine fireplace is in the main room, with stone base stopped jambs and a carved wooden lintel, featuring a frieze of quatrefoils and mouchettes, intact on the right-hand side but lost on the left. The interior also boasts chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. Above the staircase is a plastered-over cruck truss, positioned next to a stack. Windbraces are present on either side of the cruck on the upper floor. These details were revealed during an examination of the roof, documented in an unpublished report by E.H.D. Williams in September 1984.
