Description

This is an 18th-century house, remodelled in the early to mid-19th century, located in Winford, near Felton. The house is built of coursed limestone rubble with freestone dressings, and has a clay pantile roof now largely covered with asbestos tiles. The roof has stone coping to the gable ends and stone stacks with cornices; there's a projecting stack at the rear.

The house has a double-depth plan with two large rooms at the front and a central entrance hall. A single-story service wing was added to the rear in the early to mid-19th century.

The south front is symmetrical with three bays. The upper floor has sash windows without glazing bars. The ground floor has later 19th-century canted bay windows, a central doorway with radiating glazing bars to a semicircular fanlight, a stone pedimental canopy on brackets, and a fielded six-panel door. The rear (north) side has sash windows with glazing bars, a projecting lateral stack on the left, and the single-story service wing on the right, featuring a plank door and casement window beneath a lean-to pantile roof.

The interior retains 18th and 19th-century joinery. The front rooms have Victorian fireplaces, and the west room contains panelled cupboard doors. An early 19th-century staircase has stick balusters, column newels, and a mahogany handrail. The rear rooms have 18th-century two-panel doors.

The front garden is enclosed by a dwarf stone wall with stone piers and iron railings, including an iron gate. The group value of this property resides in its well-preserved character and historic details.
