Description
The summer house, built around the late 19th century, is located at the north end of Bendle Combe in Tyntesfield Park. It is constructed from stone rubble with freestone dressings and features a scalloped tile hipped roof topped with an octagonal lantern, which also has a hipped roof. The building has an octagonal plan with a loggia on all sides and is a single storey. The roof extends down to low eaves, supported by rustic timber posts that create the loggia around the structure. On the south side, there are large three-light stone mullion windows and a moulded stone doorway. Inside, the walls are lined with match-boarding, and the exposed moulded timber roof structure and lantern are visible. The fireplace chimneypiece has been removed, and there is a large rustic table made from an enormous tree trunk. This summer house is a complete example of a Victorian summer house and is part of a fine series of garden and estate buildings at Tyntesfield Park.
