Description
This large Gothic seat, located about 180 metres west northwest of Tyntesfield House, dates from around 1865 and is possibly designed by John Norton. Made of stone, the seat has a semi-circular shape and features four tall piers with cusped pointed arch panels, each topped with vases. Between the piers, the back of the seat displays a frieze of pierced quatrefoils with moulded coping. The base is raised and paved. This seat is a notable example of Victorian garden ornamentation, situated in a grade II* garden, and is the largest of several Gothic seats found in the garden at Tyntesfield.
