Description
Sandways Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with an 18th-century extension to the south and likely a 19th-century outbuilding to the left. The building is constructed of coursed rubble, with the outbuilding wing made of brick. It features thatched and pantiled roofs, with a gabled roof on the left and a half-hipped roof on the right. Brick stacks are located at the ends of the original range. The original layout appears to have consisted of two rooms on either side of a central cross-passage. The cottage has two storeys and a two-window range on the original building. Most of the windows are 20th-century two-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. The northern room includes a fireplace with a chamfered, four-centred wooden bressummer, while the southern room likely has a similar bressummer behind a later fireplace. There is a wooden newel stair beside the fireplace in the southern room. Some 18th-century fielded panel doors are present, and the deep chamfered ceiling beams have had their stops removed.
