Description

These are a pair of mid-18th century buildings on Colliton Street. They are constructed from Portland or Ridgeway rubble stone to the sides and a stone plinth, with a pink brick front. The roof is pitched and covered in old tiles, with red brick stacks. The buildings are two storeys high with attics.

The front elevation has three sash windows with glazing bars in moulded flush frames on the first floor, one of which is segment-headed, and a segment-headed blind panel. On the ground floor is a single sash window with glazing bars in a moulded flush frame, along with an 18th-century shopfront featuring glazing bars and an adjacent flush-panelled door with a blocked fanlight under a moulded cornice. There is also one flush-panelled segment-headed door, and a planked segment-headed door leading to a passageway.

At the rear, a two-storey extension is built of checkered brick, with a hipped tile roof. A dormer window with casements and weatherboarded cheeks extends from this roof. Buildings number 1 to 5, including the former Thurman’s warehouse, form a notable group.
