Description
Messrs Thurman's Warehouse is a 14th-century building located on Colliton Street. It was originally the rectory for St Peter's and Holy Trinity when the two parishes were combined. The building was home to the Reverend John White, who served as rector from 1605 to 1648 and was known for organizing the Dorset emigrants who sailed on the "Mary and John" to Massachusetts in 1630.
The structure is built from ridgeway rubble and features a pitched modern tile roof with two plain brick stacks. It stands two storeys high and has one industrial window with glazing bars and one casement window on the first floor, along with one casement window with glazing bars on the ground floor. There is a carriage entrance with rounded 19th-century corners at the west end. The only medieval detail that has survived is a 14th-century doorway, which was originally part of the south wall but is now located inside No. 17 South Street. Messrs Thurman's Warehouse, along with Nos 1 to 5 Colliton Street, forms a cohesive group of buildings.
