Description
Chantry Farm is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed from squared, coursed rubble and ashlar. It features a tiled, gable-ended roof with a brick stack on the right and at the intersection of the front and rear ranges. The front range has stone coping on the right and is two storeys high with a three-window arrangement on the main facade. The outer windows have four square-headed lights with sunk chamfered mullions and leaded-lights, while the central upper floor window has a single light of a similar style. There is a part-glazed flush-panel door beneath a two-centred head in a square surround, adorned with foliage-enriched spandrels. A string course runs along the building. The rear range includes two and three-light hollow-chamfered stone mullioned windows, alongside various later casements, some of which also have leaded-lights.
Inside, the farmhouse features a nine-panelled ceiling with intersecting beams and wall plates, plank and muntin partitions, and 18th-century panelling. The open kitchen fireplace has a chamfered stone head. The original staircase includes moulded close strings, heavy turned balusters, square newel-posts with ball finials, and heavy moulded handrails. There is also a cupboard with scrolled iron strap hinges.
