Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the late 16th to early 17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a slate roof featuring stone eaves courses and coped gables. Brick end stacks are present. The building is two storeys high, with a slightly lower 17th-century extension at the right end. A 20th-century part-glazed door is set within a stone surround and has a hoodmould. To the right of this door is a small, blocked circular window, which originally served as a stair light. On the ground floor, two 4-light stone mullioned windows are present with hoodmoulds. The first floor has three similar 3-light windows, all with hollow-chamfered mullions. Above the doorway is a 2-light ovolo-mullioned window. The right-hand extension has a 20th-century part-glazed door and one 3-light ovolo-mullioned window on the ground floor. A metal casement window is on the first floor. Inside the ground-floor room of the extension is a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and one timber jamb, along with a deep chamfered ceiling beam. In the original house, the right-hand ground-floor room contains a large open fireplace, partially built up, with a timber lintel and stone jambs. Moulded ceiling beams are present, possibly re-used from a former compartmented ceiling. The entrance hall has a heavy plank and muntin partition at the rear, featuring an open balustrade in the upper part with turned balusters. A door with a cambered head is also present. A plank and muntin partition separates the hall from the left room. This room features a deep chamfered ceiling beam and a large open fireplace with a moulded timber lintel and stone jambs. The stair has square newels with shaped tops. A plank and muntin partition is located on the first floor. A low front boundary wall is constructed of rubble stone.
