Description
This is a 17th-century thatched cottage situated on Telegraph Street, Iwerne Courtney or Shroton. It is constructed from clunch, rubble, brick, and timber framing, with a colourwashed exterior. The thatched roof has brick stacks at the gables and along the ridge. The cottage is one and a half storeys high, with an irregular arrangement of four windows. A two-story canted bay extends from the front, featuring timber mullioned windows. Other windows are casements with glazing bars, and there is a plank front door. The interior features a cross passage plan and a winding staircase built into the east gable wall, adjacent to a fireplace, as documented by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Dorset, Volume III, page 129, number 6).
