Description
The K8 telephone kiosk, designed by Bruce Martin and introduced in 1968, is a notable example of mid-20th century design. It is made up of six cast iron parts and features an aluminium door. The door and two sides of the kiosk are fitted with large rectangular sheets of toughened glass that are set in frames with rounded corners. The fourth side has a solid panel within a frame. The kiosk has a square plan and a flat roof dome, which is also glazed with toughened glass on all four sides, featuring rectangular panes with rounded corners. Three of these panes are clear glass, while the front panel displays the words ‘FERNDOWN 2685’ in black lettering, suggesting that it originally would have included the word 'TELEPHONE'. The kiosk is painted red.
