Description
The former stable block to Lulworth Castle is a building that dates back to 1777, although it incorporates some 17th-century work and was partly remodeled around 1900. It is constructed with brick walls and features a tiled roof with brick stacks that have oversailing courses. The building has a quadrangular plan surrounding a round courtyard and consists of one storey with attics.
The main north range includes an elliptical entrance arch with a date stone, topped by a half-timbered gable. Above this, there is a timber clock turret with an ogee-shaped lead roof. The ground floor windows are designed with timber mullions and transoms, while the half-timbered gabled dormers add to the architectural interest. Along the ridge, there is a series of lead-covered turrets. The east front features two timbered porches, one of which has an ornamental rustic design. The south front is made of stone walls and shows remains of a mullioned window. A modern house and garage have been added to the west range, but these are not included in the listing.
